The International Nordic Walking Federation, INWA, joins the International Mountain Tourism Alliance IMTA
After fruitful discussions, the President of INWA, Aki Karihtala, signed an agreement making INWA an official member of the International Mountain Tourism Alliance, IMTA. INWA was also invited to join the council of IMTA. The chairman of the council is Dominique de Villepin, a former prime minister of France.
Aki Karihtala said; “This membership and cooperation are very important for both parties. Being the largest Nordic Walking Federation in the world, we now have better opportunities to expand into new Nordic Walking markets and to support existing Nordic Walking activities in those markets. It is a great honour for me to speak on behalf of INWA in the IMTA council.”
IMTA is a non-government, non-profit international organisation established with the approval of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, and was voluntarily formed by destination management agencies, private tourism organisations, groups, enterprises, and individuals of major mountainous countries and regions in the world.
The IMTA now has 194 groups and individuals as members, comprising 110 domestic institutions, 74 international institutions, and 10 individuals, from 34 nations and regions on all five continents. The group members come from nations and regions with a significant mountain tourism industry, including tourism institutions, non-profit organisations, corporations, consulting firms, colleges, airlines, and equipment manufacturers. Experts, academics, and business owners in the field of mountain tourism make up the individual members.
